A good slat bed, but be warned of the issues with those in general
Curtis Essential is a good easy to assemble platform bed, with a couple of caveats about the construction and utility. 4 stars.
The first comment is that if theres a bedbug issue I certainly didnt encounter it. It also seems very odd that bedbugs would be in a primarily wood and fabric piece. There has been a lot said already about these, and its a rather stylish bed, although the inability to connect a headboard is a negative as it would have only required a couple more bolts. It was, indeed, relatively simple to put togtether as it is largely preassembled and just needs a few parts / Id rank this several steps easier than your average IKEA model.
The two caveats Id list that dont seem to be common in other reviews are on the height and on the slats. On the height, if you have a box spring + mattress set / especially if theyre deep mattresses / this is going to result in a very high bed, since it really seems designed around a 12=14 mattress by itself. (You could in theory take it apart and try to remove the slat rails to provide a lower surface, but thats a lot of effort.)
The other longer term issue is the slats themselves, which are cheap pine and have held up ok for now, but unlike many other slat beds theres no secondary support in the middle. This is a recipe for disaster for any bed over a long period of time, and like another reviewer I immediately provided a homemade solution / theyre supported by a bunch of books purchased at a friends of my local library sale. Otherwise, I suspect the slats would have already broken, and once that happens its time for a new bed since even a single slat brea leads to the rest of them falling apart and your bed caving into the floor.
4 stars. The headboard, height, and lack of center support are problems, but otherwise its a pretty nice piece of furniture. Good Product.
