The wood is definitely solid and is very sturdy. I have climbed on with with both my Littles. It took me and my husband about 4 hours to put together with only one 15 min break. A couple of pieces were labeled incorrectly but we were able to figure it out. It was my 6 year olds bday present. She is in love. We got the clay colored because it was 150 less than the other 2 colors. It is beautiful color. Nicely made.
