    Shiny, tacky retro fun!

For all of my fellow shoppers who read reviews before purchasing, take a deep breath. This is a cute, inexpensive, tacky, silver-colored, non-metallic holiday tree. Is it perfect? No, see above. The lack of instructions deducted the star from my review. Is the measurements accurate? Measuring from the base of the stand to the spindly top, mine came in at 5 9. When you purchase a tree, the price is based on a per foot calculation. Thats from the cut trunk base to the spindly top. Exactly like this tree is measured. I bent the spindly top down and made two more branches and a stub for the top. Does it shed? A bit (see picture) but less that most garlands you would wrap around newel posts or swag as garland. Does it take a little of your time to breath (some) life into its flat, dull out-of-the box appearance? Yes, see above. Does it look like a real tree? Of course not, you silly geese, its a plastic, silver tree. Yes plastic. PET is a thermoplastic, poly resin. Think shiny polyester. Its not going to electrocute you if you put lights on it. It might melt if you used a lot of incandescent bulbs but a nice long string of warm white fairy lights will lend it a warm patina, without fear of electrocution or a melted tree in your future. DO NOT UNWRAP THE PLASTIC TWINE!!! The (very) flexible branches are attached to the trunk with it. Unwind it and not only have you wasted a bunch of time but your money as well. The assembly technique that worked for me was as follows: Place on a smooth, easy to clean surface (my coffee table worked great). From the bottom up, use a bit of force to pull the main branches away from the trunk. Repeat to the top of each section. Follow this up by working top down and spreading out the supporting branches from each main one. You may have some needles that arent completely separated but they are easy to shred with your finger tips or a pair of fine, small scissors. Bend the branches up and down to mimic a natural, wild-caught tree and fill in some of the spaces. Do this as much or as little as you desire to achieve the sparse or full look you desire. If you like the sparse look of a noble fir because it allows lots of spaces to feature your favorite ornaments, you may be very pleased with this tree. If this all sounds too difficult, then this tree isnt the one for you. Me? Im happy I made this purchase. The two sections of my 5-footer fit easily into a large plastic tote so next year, I will have little to no assembly or loss of many more needles. Finally, dont get your hopes up about the ornaments that are included They are lightweight plastic with a very obvious seam. If you have a small child or new pet, these baubles are perfect for them as they wont break. Personally, they werent a selling point. Best of luck to you and happy decorating!
