My kid and I like the bed, but there is some room for improvement.
Generally, we like this bed very much. It is as pictured, so no big surprises. Areas for improvement include:
- more easily being able to install the slide on either side (switch the slide and ladder positions more easily -- I'd wrongly assumed they would be interchangable).
- curving the metal at the corners and edges of the bed (similar to the way the slides guard rail is curved)
- increasing the length of the slide's guardrail (there's a good ~6-8 inch gap between the bed and rail and my 6 year old is a little too scared to use it by himself since it's difficult to reach down and hold it. Though if you have a braver kid than me, that won't be a problem!)
- include some sort of plastic or rubber washer with the screws (the bed squeaks quite a bit whenever you move around in it).
- use thicker metal for the ladder steps (the steps are so thin that I personally find it a little uncomfortable using them)
Some things that have worked out well:
- it was pretty easy to build
- it's elevated enough that we could put storage shelves underneath
- it's not so high to be scary for the kiddo
- the guard rail (or roll rail) on the bed is there and does its job
- its weight capacity can hold me and my kid so we can snuggle together
Overall, I'm glad we bought this bed.
