At this price point, youre not getting mahogany. The wood is fir and is not the highest quality, but, it certainly is good enough.

The wood is very easy to work with. Fir may not be the most expensive or high quality, but when staining it, its relatively goofproof. The wood is fairly dry so it soaks up the stain like cry.

Some tips
Youll need to sand off some rough edge so have some sandpaper handy. Nothing cry, just a quick swipe on a few pieces did the trick.
Be careful when using the screws. I used a higher powered drill with a Phillips bit and had one strip. You dont need to torque them down, just get them flush and then tighten them with a hand screwdriver.
If you are going to stain and/or polyurethane you should use a pick to open up the screw pilot holes a bit before applying the finish. Just makes them easier to find.
