I purchased two of these, one for my daughter and one for my son. Teenagers. They both love it. We all put together the first one, I put together the second one on my own. You definitely want to put it together in the room. It is fairly solid construction. At first, I noticed the draws didnt seem to sit straight. I undid the hardware and reinstalled it all to no avail. Then it dawned on me, this unit is not completely solid tight. So by moving one side or the other, it caused the drawers to line up correctly. Bear this in mind because the slats that hold the mattress are not fixed. I would say it is a floating design. This makes the framework flexible. By moving the framework a little bit, then the drawers will lay flat against the side of the platform bed. Make sense? Now, the drawers closest to the front of the bed where pillows would be - if you have a night table stand, then it renders those drawers useless. Of course I didnt realize this until the room was set up. So unless you are planning on having no night table stands, then you really have four (4) usable drawers. Overall, my son and daughter are very happy with the product. It is heavy and has no movement or sound when you are sitting/laying on the bed. I bought the matching night table stands along with a desk in the same color, and the room is dramatic with black as the foundation color for their brightly colored bedding. Excellent purchase for the price. I was not looking to spend $800 for a teenagers room, so this price point was perfect and the quality very, very good. A couple of the slats were a little warped but it is not an issue once you lay the mattress on it. By the way, it doesnt need a box spring. If you used a box spring, then you are looking for a very high profile bed because depending on the depth of a box spring, the mattress would be way above the sides. I would think it would make the mattress less stable. On the other hand, not having a box spring makes it a tad difficult to tuck the sheets under the mattress because the sides come up about 2 inches above the bottom of the mattress. But its a small price to pay in my opinion, not a big deal.
