I have had previous umbrellas that were inexpensive, but had wooden poles. These would not make it through the varying weather patterns here in Chicago, sun, wind, cold, rain, etc., without warping or drying out. This one has a nice sturdy but light aluminum pole, that has the added benefit of the angle-bracket! Now I can adjust the umbrella to block the direct light while working on my laptop outside... no problems.
Great alternative to wooden poles!
