This bed is solid, real wood with a walnut stain as shown. The bed I was replacing was a solid wood bed from urban outfitters that paid over 1,000 for, the support for that bed had cracked over the years and it was time to replace it. I had been looking online and this bed kept coming up in searches and after looking at the reviews I decided to take a shot. I am not disappointed. This bed at a quarter of the price, is actually better quality and sturdier than the bed Its replacing. Very happy with it. very pleasantly surprised
