I purchased the Moutec Large Rifle Safe after reading many reviews on gun safes and after making a lit of the things I really needed versus my budget. Each persons needs are going to be different, so what makes sense for me, might not pan out the same way for you. So, I was looking for a sub-$500 gun safe that could hold 2 long arms, 2-3 pistols, with an extra lock box for ammo. All of those firearms are to just be stored safely except for training or in an emergency situation where we need to vacate our home or during sustained periods of unrest. So, I was not interested in anything fancy with quick access for instant home-defense response, because those risks are mitigated by other security measures. I also was not interested in any sort of fireproof measures because my firearms are budget-friendly tools for me, not a major hobby or financial investment. Ill be spending much more on training and practice than I will for the safe, as per my budget. The main security risk that the safe mitigates for me, is keeping my teenage kids, their friends, the dog-sitter, service technicians, etc. from having easy access to them. The secondary risk mitigation is take make the firearms less attractive to steal. A determined robber is going to get whatever they get anyway, so Im not going to pay double or triple the cost for a bit of security theater. Stopping people from casually or easily accessing my firearms, without breaking the bank was my goal. The Moutec Large Rifle Safe fit that perfectly. It is study enough to dissuade casual theft and it keeps my emergency firearms out of site. The locking mechanism was fine for my needs, but certainly has room for improvement if the company was making upgrades. Mainly, the knob that disengages the lock doesnt turn super-smooth, so not a huge issue. The foam holders for the long arms seems decent enough, but I might try to replace or modify them so they are a little more stiff and stay in place. It was nice that they included the concrete anchors, so I dont need to go buy any. If I were going to improve it... Ill add some LED lights inside that run off the key-pad batteries and activate when a contact switch is released by the door opening. Ill toss in a Blink battery-powered security camera in their too, so whenever the safe is opened, itll take a short video and upload it to my Blink account.
TLDR; I have limited security needs, my firearms are not expensive or collectable, and the Moutec Large Rifle Safe was the best affordable option. It met all of my needs.
Good value for what I needed
