I am very happy with this purchase and wish I had purchased it sooner. I am using the playpen along the perimeter of a bedroom that my chinchillas use to play in instead of covering the baseboards and walls with other material.
if youre using this for ferrets, PLEASE READ! good product, but that is partially because it doesnt have much to compare to..
while it IS tall and doesnt have horizontal bars to use to climb over, theres 3 things that you need to be aware of..
1. Ferrets usually will try to jump at the cage panels to try to climb over, and ferrets have a tendency to get their paws/fingers caught in metal wiring. 3 of my ferrets have gotten their hand or foot caught in either the bottom bar or the middle bar, specifically where the panels connect. They will start screaming and freak out, they usually arent able to get out, and if youre not home, they will panic and try to force them selves out which can be very damaging. Its not a good idea to leave them unattended while youre not home. (p.s. one time, one of my ferrets leaped up off the top of a toy inside the pen onto the top of the cage panel, where her foot got caught in between the top bar, and had i not been in the room to free her, she may have seriously injured herself, broken a bone, ect.)
2. the cage used as a pen like in the picture is not large enough for a healthy adult ferret(S)..in my opinion. ferrets love to run around, and explore, so what i recommend, is using it as a gate. IT Stretches aslong as a bedroom wall when opened straight, section off a part of a room or around the ferrret cage and secure each end to walls, youre ferrets will have much more space and it will make them more active. bored ferrets might start biting on the cage panels trying to move them around, this is bad cause it can chip the tips of their canine teeth.
3. if u have a very curious, persistant ferret like me, they may be fixated on escaping by getting over the cage. SOME ferrets who will stop at nothing will use the toys and items inside the pen as a boost, and keep on trying to jump over until they make it.
p.s. if youre really unlucky like me, and you happen to have a very LARGE, strong ferret, (22-24 +) then be ware... they can eventually reach the top just by jumping up and down.
overall, its the best playpen you can buy for the price for larger small animals like ferrets , or rabbits. its far too big for any pocket sized animal though. I suggest using this as a gate, but if u gonna leave them in it unattended, just try to be cautious of any potential ways to climb over, and try investing in buying some plexiglass sheets, U can easily attach them inside to each panel, this prevents any ferret paws being caught as well as biting the bars.
We leave our ferrets in their play pen while we are at work. It is very sturdy and there is enough room for our two ferrets to have fun while were away. Highly recommend.
I have 4 Chinchillas and 5 rats That I use this for. I hook two of them together because one doesnt allow enough room for me, the pets, and their toys. Two of my four chinchillas can jump out, but normally wont unless I get out of the playpen, or the see the chance to get on my bed.
My rats dont really try to escape the play pen, but they can get over it if they really want to.
I love this playpen, and it has made my life a whole lot easier in regards to play time for my fuzzies!!
I just want to point out that it is for supervised play time only and not something you can leave your pets in unsupervised!
